Harvie's Painful Rite of Passage

Well there has been lots of talk. The models have been made. The opportunity is right in our backyard, but perhaps it will just be another great idea that never comes to fruition. The current focus of the Calgary Weir Project has been dilluted by many interest groups and many wonder not only when but if it will even happen at all.

Some are arguing that replacing the deadly weir with a safe whitewater park will attract so many kayakistas that they will cause environmental damage to the "sensitive ecosytem" found by the trout hatchery. Others believe that degenerate kayakers with nothing better to do with their lives than to play all day outside on the river will disrupt the local communities and set bad examples for the youth. In the meantime a highrise condo development is being built just below the sensitive park, and the current degenerates in the area dont paddle all day they just leave empty bottles and needles lying around the riverside. How about that example for the kids.  

So what benefits would this whitewater park creat if it ever happens? From past projects we can see that whitewater parks can be a huge source of revenue for a region. One needs look no further than the WW park in Reno or
