Paddling is fun, so keep it that way - get training in safety and rescue skills, and paddle safely. This two and a half day (evening) CKC/AWA program has been developed by paddlers and instructors across Canada. It introduces course participants to safety and rescue theories, procedures and techniques that are effective in contributing to safe and enjoyable river paddling.
This scenario-based course centres around learning and practicing skills and techniques including: self-rescue, shore based throwline rescues, boat based rescues, entrapments, boat pins and simple mechanical advantage systems for ropes. We use equipment that is easily carried by all paddlers, and focus on the importance of personal and group safety at all times.
